Session 2: Sharing Your Story

by Don Bromley

All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Choose from the following three themes for your own time of sharing, which will take place during our small group times on Saturday. You can choose a single theme, or a combination of more than one. Your entire sharing should take about 15-20 minutes. You are encouraged to spend some of your quiet time reflecting on these themes and taking notes as God brings things to mind.

While you are sharing, the others in your small group will be listening closely. Afterward, the group leader will invite the rest of the group to reflect back to you significant elements of your story, or images brought to mind. Each group member can draw a picture or write a word on a poster board-images and words which your story has called to their mind. These pictures and words represent your God Story. This reflection time should take about 10-15 minutes.

Theme #1: What Are My Roots?

Spend time reflecting on your ancestors, parents, significant family history, memorable family members and events. Ask the Lord to help you recall and see them with God’s perspective. Ask God to give you an awareness of his presence in your life even before it began.

Theme #2 God In My Life Through Significant Persons and Events

Beginning with a prayer for God’s light and openness, reflect on who have been the most important people, as well as most significant events or happenings, in your life that have made you who you are today. Such people and events could be joyful or painful when brought to memory. In any case, ask the Lord to bring to memory specific people, events and times that you recognize in retrospect as real God-moments, shaping your heart and mind arid soul.

Theme #3 Experiencing God in The Present

Reflect and pray about where you find or experience God in your life now, including both the happy and painful experiences. How do you describe God as you meet him in these experiences (feelings, images, thoughts, etc.)? Reflect on the relationship you have with God and share in the group whatever you wish.
